Introduction

These release notes apply to version 1.0.0 of nShield Web Services SQLEKM (WS SQLEKM). They contain information specific to this release such as new features, defect fixes, and known issues.

The release notes may be updated with issues that have come to light after this release has been made available. Please check the https://nshieldsupport.entrust.com/hc/en-us/sections/360001115837-Release-Notes for the most up to date version of this document.

Purpose of this release

nShield Web Services SQLEKM v1.0.0 works in combination with the nShield Web Services Option Pack, and nShield Hardware Security Modules (HSMs), to provide a high quality SQL Extensible Key Management (SQLEKM) provider.

WS SQLEKM User Guide provides information on how to install and use the new nShield Web Services SQLEKM provider.

Compatibility

Supported Enterprise Editions of Microsoft SQL Server

The following Enterprise Editions of Microsoft SQL Server are supported by this release:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2019

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2017

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2016

We recommend that all the latest service packs, updates and hotfixes for your version of Microsoft SQL Server are installed.

Supported versions of the nShield Web Services Option Pack

This release is targeted at deployments with the following versions of the nShield Web Services Option Pack:

  • Web Services Option Pack 3.0.2

Supported operating systems

This release has been tested for compatibility with the following operating systems:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2022 x64

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2019 x64

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2016 x64

Migrating from the nShield Database Security Option Pack

The steps necessary to migrate existing sqlekm keys for use with the nShield Web Services SQLEKM provider, and items to consider, are detailed within WS SQLEKM User Guide. It is only possible to migrate keys from versions 2.x of the nShield Database Security Option Pack (nDSOP), see Release notes and nDSOP v2.1.0 User Guide for information on upgrading previous versions of nDSOP to 2.x.
